Opel unveiled its first electric car at the recent Geneva Motor Show. Set to go on sale in 2011, the Ampera returns huge economy thanks to its range extender engine, which runs as a back up to the electric unit. The Ampera shares many styling cues with the recently released Opel Insignia. Opel has clearly designed the body with aerodynamics in mind, which will help to keep air resistance to a minimum and lower fuel consumption. Inside, the Ampera gains a whole host of extras including two information screens and a unique touch-screen entertainment centre. Whether or not these features will actually make it to the production car is unlikely however. One things for sure though, it certainly makes the Toyota Prius look bland!
